The N!CA project addresses the increasing demand for nursing care in Austria, driven by demographic changes, chronic illnesses, and multimorbidity. At the same time, nurses face high workloads and low job satisfaction, with documentation demands being a major contributing factor.

N!CA aims to support nurses by reducing documentation burden and providing evidence-based decision support at the point of care. The project consists of three interlinked areas of work: 1) redesigning and simplifying nursing processes, 2) intelligent use of real-world data, and 3) developing digital tools for clinical decision support.

N!CA examines both acute and long-term care settings, focusing on how processes can be streamlined, automated, and supported by artificial intelligence. It also explores digital tools for patient involvement, personalized risk profiling, and nursing care assessment. The overall goal is to improve working conditions for nurses and support high-quality care delivery.
