Kids doing Science - children university in Hagenberg
For the fourth time, Anna and Susi led the workshop "Coding Detectives" for the youngest age group at the KinderUni OÖ. With 15 motivated and courageous children taking part, the workshop offered a playful and engaging introduction to concepts that may sound complicated at first.
Questions such as “What is an algorithm?”, “What is a sequence?” and “What is a variable?” were explored through hands-on activities and examples from the children’s everyday lives. An algorithm, for instance, was brought to life using a traffic light and a play road carpet.
Learning was combined with plenty of movement and creativity: the children sang, painted, took part in sack races and a relay race, and solved exciting puzzles along the way. Step by step, seemingly difficult words and abstract ideas became something the children could experience, understand, and enjoy.
The workshop once again showed that even young children can confidently explore the basic ideas behind computer science when learning is active, playful, and connected to familiar situations.
